Lots of demonstrations with lots of tools. Lots of guided practice. outside of Edmonton, as well as artist residencies in schools.
All classes are located at the City Arts Centre at 10943-84 Avenue

Mosaic Tabletops: the Indirect Direct Method

In this intermediate course, participants will mosaic a table top of your choosing, learning the following techniques:
- installing of temporarily mounted mosaic onto the tabletop, producing a flat surface
Please contact me to determine the suitability of the table you wish to use. Table tops chosen must be smaller than 16" by 16". If you prefer to do all your work in class time, I advise you to choose a small table top. A previous mosaic course or other similar experience will be necessary.

3D Glass on Glass Mosaics
|
|
|
Learn about creating a glass on glass mosaic while creating a 4 sided glass lamp that looks gorgeous when lit up. Returning intermediate students will have a will have a choice of working on a 2D glass on glass panel project, or on a 3D curved glass base. Participants will learn.designing for glass mosaics, cutting tile, laying tile, and grouting.

Two Evening Workshops
Color Theory for Mosaics (not taught this season)
|
|
|
Learn about the basics of color theory, and in particular, how they apply to mosaics. Learn about color emotions and how they can bring a certain "feel" to your artwork. A comprehensive handout will accompany a lecture and various hands on exercises.

Working with Thinset (not taught this season)
|
|
|
Suitable for those who want to take their mosaics to a new level. Topics to be covered include: mixing thinset, working with thinset, working with textured materials such as smalti and riven marble, using thinset to sculpt bas-relief, and the eternal question of "to grout or not to grout?". Participants will create a fine art mosaic of their choice. A personal project consultation with Margo Anton will be offered prior to the beginning of the course.

Mesh Method for Mosaics (not taught this season)

Learn the ins and outs of mosaicking onto fiberglass mesh, which permits the fabrication of a mosaic in one location and the installation in another. Please come to the first class with a 6" square design ready to go. In the second class, students will mount their mosaics onto plywood and learn some installation tips for larger projects.

Single Evening Workshops
Introduction to Mosaics
|

Learn the basics of mosaic while creating a 10" square mirror frame suitable for indoor use. Students will learn the following mosaic techniques:
- designing
- cutting
- laying tile
- grouting
The goal of the course is to enable participants to make an indoor mosaic on their own.

All About Andamento NEW!
|
|
|
Knowledge about creating good andamento is key to moving your mosaic style and abilities along; creating good flow is key to creating a great mosaic. In this intermediate/advanced course, participants will learn about various mosaic laying styles, learn how to deal with tricky areas while not losing andamento focus and delve into the differences between historical and modern mosaic andamenti. Participants may choose to work on one large project for the duration, or a series of small weekly projects.

Mosaic Garden Art (not taught this season)
|
|
|
Mosaics are gorgeous in the garden! Learn about outdoor mosaic making while creating 2 projects, one 2D and one 3D. Learn about suitable bases, adhesives, and tile for the outdoors, as well as tile laying, grouting and more. Bases are not included in the course cost, and are to be provided by the student for the second class.
